International film Distribution

We are frequently approached by filmmakers who wish to see their films distributed and screened in cinemas around the world. There is no single route to the cinema screen and with over 100s of theatrical distributors of all shapes and sizes; it can be daunting for filmmakers to choose the method which is right for their film.

The simple rule for those films that looks for distribution for theatrical release has to entre in good international film festivals. If you have a good luck your film will be selected in these “A” listed international film festivals, they provide an important shop window to enter into the international distribution markets. Nomination of a film in these festivals make a way for the world’s distributors and chances of getting bid against each other for the right to distribute your film in their own countries (theatrically and non-theatrically) are very bright. In any major film festival which shows 200 or more feature, at least 40% of these will never get distribution and will not be seen again on a cinema screen in that country. As per the estimation only 10% of the feather produced has luck to see the inside of a cinema.

International Sales agents are equally important as Distributors. These companies will consider new films and buy worldwide rights in order to sell on to distributors across the planet.  Often they have admirable relationships with distributors and festivals of all dimensions in all markets.  They are very useful to get the best deal in territories most filmmakers may not even have thought of.  And a distributor on the other side likely to take a film sincerely as a commercial proposition if it has been offered to them by a recognized sales agent. Our own specialist PR personnel ensure the national film press (print and online) look your film in advance and review it / write about it on the day of your release. On the other side reviews are free promotion &advertising and a good one is a huge support to get your film into theatres.  We also help you out with the certification and classification of your film from the Censor Board.

Selling the film to cinemas can be a tough job.  We need to convince the distributors that your film should be chosen over and above a dozen other releases that open every week.  This is a blend of communicating what is huge about your film, but also believing exhibitors that your film has the perceptibility it needs to find an audience.  This perceptibility comes from promotion &advertising, festival exposure, reviews, word of mouth on preview screenings and is one of the toughest things to secure and to convince others.
